JÖRG KRAMER IS “PFALZER” AND THAT'S QUITE SOMETHING.
SOMETIMES HE ALSO TESTS EQUIPMENT – JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT..
HIGH STANDARDS AND FUN WHILE TESTING
His requirements for a piece of equipment: reliability, faultless technical details, full spectrum of sound options. That's why he sometimes tests equipment, just because he enjoys it. The testing. And the equipment too. Sometimes...
Jörg has been familiar with amp modelling from its very beginning as an Amp Farm plugin for Pro Tools, and as a qualified studio sound engineer he knows what he's talking about. He wrote his audio engineering thesis at SAE on guitar recording. Subsequently he also taught at SAE and was a lecturer for effects, digital technology, mastering and session procedure.
PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE MEETS KNOWHOW
This well-founded knowledge is supported by the practical experience of countless recordings and thirty years of guitar-playing. For Jörg it's not important whether amp sims sound like the original: "They have to sound good, create the sounds I want and work well in a mix or a band situation. The Axe does all of this exceptionally well."
AXE-FX II AS MULTI-FX DEVICE
That the Axe-Fx II defines top-drawer amp modelling is something not even the competition can deny. But what is often overlooked is that the Axe-Fx II also offers unbeatably versatile and fantastic sounding effects. Even without the amp models it would still be well worth its asking price as a pure multi-effects device. We are therefore extremely pleased that Jörg has written a review from exactly this viewpoint: the Axe-Fx II as multi-effects unit..
"BEST ON THE PLANET"
A second review takes a look at the MFC-101 foot controller (in Pfalzer's words: "Imho the best midi board on the planet, by a long way.") Here again it's refreshing to see Jörg's exact and practiced approach.
MINI MUSICAL POWER STATION
As we only recently started distributing power amps from Matrix Amplification we are especially pleased that Jörg has also written a review about the Matrix GT 100FX power amp – a small musical power station with a big heart. It's special features: warm, structured mids, transparent bass, clear highs and fantastic headroom.
LIGHTWEIGHT WITH A BIG PUNCH
Matrix is not only showing the way forward with power amps, but also pushing the boundaries in terms of speaker solutions: the Matrix Cube Q12a is causing quite a stir. With its 12” coaxial speaker system and dispersion pattern of 80 degrees this full-range guitar cabinet produces transparent and extremely punchy sound that belies its light weight and compact dimensions.
ON A MISSION FOR MISSION
The series of tests is completed with a a brief look at Mission pedals, which we recently added to our programme in a custom G66 colour and offer with the Axe-Fx II and MFC-101. Professional, full-metal expression pedals with the same travel as a classic wah and perfectly suited for use with the Axe-Fx II.
As well as being a sound engineer Jörg is also an active musician, playing the guitar in various bands from jazz to hard rock and writing / producing his own material. You can listen to one of his interesting compositions, a mélange of classical music and fusion sounds called 'Trilogie Manie', here:
