HAGÜ HASN’T ONLY SOLD OVER 14 MILLION ALBUMS, BUT IS ALSO THE CREATOR OF XOUND.
AND XOUND HAS BEEN BUSY TESTING THE AXE-FX II:
‘WELCOME TO THE FUTURE’

12 YEARS OF XOUND

HagueEven if nothing immediately springs to mind when you hear the name HaGü Schmitz, you will certainly have heard of some of the many bands and solo artists with whom he has worked as a musician or producer. Rather than dropping lots of names here, we’ll refer you to the Wikipedia page about him.

TECHNICALLY WELL-INFORMED
HaGü has been publishing Xound since 2002 and this music industry magazine has more than just an “X” in common with the Axe-Fx – it seems to us that a similar concept of best possible quality is the basis for both of them. Xound stands out for its high frequency of articles that are not only professionally researched and technically well-informed, but also pay close attention to real-world usage and practicality. This is a good enough reason to bring to your attention last year’s test of the Axe-Fx II in Xound..

PeterWeihePETER WEIHE:  "BREAKTHROUGH"
Of course, positive feedback from an authoritative source makes us especially happy, and when Peter Weihe talks about a “breakthrough” and admits that in a few situations he is unable to tell the difference between the Axe-Fx and a real amp, well, that’s almost akin to a knighthood.

ULTRA-RES
What we need to keep in mind, however, is that these tests were undertaken quite a while ago. And we all know just what the latest firmware updates have achieved regarding the realism of the Axe-Fx II. This is especially true of the UltraRes Cabs introduced with Firmware Version 13.

So, if Peter Weihe discovered during testing that “this minimal sense of space that you get for free when you record a box with a microphone” was missing from the Axe-Fx II, all we can say is that Cliff Chase must have been missing it too, as that is exactly what he has given us with UltraRes cabinets

MORE TESTS
All in all then, we are very happy with the test results and are looking forward to future tests with the newest firmware version and the new Axe-Fx II XL– with the same DSP and amp modeling functions, but featuring twice as much memory, new I/O connections and many other clever details.
